Understanding Pulse Surveys

What is a Pulse Survey?

A pulse survey is a shorter, more focused version of our full Organizational Health Baseline survey. Designed for frequent use, pulse surveys help you quickly gauge employee sentiment and track key metrics over time without overwhelming your team.

When to Use a Pulse Survey

  • Follow-Up on Specific Issues: After implementing changes based on baseline survey results, use a pulse survey to measure their impact.

  • Monitor Trends: Regular pulse surveys can track ongoing trends in organizational health, allowing you to stay proactive.

  • Targeted Feedback: Focus on specific areas, such as employee engagement, communication, or leadership, to gain deeper insights.

How Pulse Surveys Work

  • Brevity: Pulse surveys typically contain fewer questions, allowing for quick completion.

  • Frequency: You can deploy pulse surveys as often as needed—monthly, quarterly, or following significant organizational events.

  • Customization: Tailor pulse surveys to focus on the most relevant topics for your organization at any given time.

Benefits of Pulse Surveys

  • Actionable Insights: Gain timely insights into your organization's health, enabling swift action.

  • Employee Engagement: Regularly engaging employees with pulse surveys helps maintain a dialogue and shows that their feedback is valued.

  • Adaptability: Pulse surveys allow you to adjust focus areas based on evolving organizational needs.

Getting Started

  • Set-Up: The process for setting up a pulse survey is the same one used for launching your organizational health baseline survey. You can view a full guide here: Entromy Survey Set-up Process. You can view a video walkthrough here: How to set up and launch a survey.

  • Question Design: We recommend leveraging a subset of the same questions used for our standard organizational health baseline survey. This will allow you to compare and contrast your results over time. You are free to run pulse surveys on specific categories or areas where you have focused efforts and/or include custom questions to gather feedback on new initiatives.

  • OHB Factor Analysis (Reduced 20-15-10 Question Set): Entromy also has standard, reduced question sets which many of our clients leverage for pulse surveys. We engaged a data scientist to analyze our extensive 65-question OHB survey and determine which questions carry the most significant weighted impact from an analytical perspective. The top 20-15-10 questions were identified, which represent a condensed set of OHB questions with the highest impact. If you are interested in running with one of our standard reduced question sets, please reach out to your Client Partnerships Manager.
