The data on this slide represents output from questions in the “Collaboration” section of the survey (listed below). The percentages shown in the graph represent the percentage of people that reach out across the two teams, either internally within group, externally to other departments, or outside of the organization. The “Nominations (avg. per resp.)” column is showing you the average number of people that each person in that group is nominating across the various collaboration questions. For top performing companies, we see between 2.5-3.5 nominations per person.
Looking at this collaboration data at an organization level, this is what the slide represents:
“In-group” collaboration: Percentage of nominations that originate within a department. A high percentage shows that a team is insular by nature.
“Other groups”: Percentage of nominations outside the department. A high percentage show that this group is engaged in cross-BU collaboration.
“External”: Means outside of the organization. Our platform allows people to “write-in” nominations that are not part of the HR user file.
What you should be looking for on this slide: Start with a hypothesis about how a group should be collaborating to effectively perform their job. What would you expect to see in terms of in-group, other groups, and externally? Then compare your hypothesis with the data in the slide to identify areas where collaboration patterns may not be what you expected to see, and perhaps identify the department that might need support when it comes to collaboration.
